Day Drinker – Into An Early Grave (CD/LP, Rebellion Records, 2024)

From a home-recording solo project to a full-fledged live band, you can definitely say that a lot has changed for Day Drinker in a relatively short amount of time! And now, with already several split releases under its belt, this Dutch-Belgian outfit finally releases its first full-length LP for Rebellion Records and it’s an absolute belter from start to finish!

Titled “Into An Early Grave”, the album features ten originals and a cover of “These Two Boots Of Mine” by the mighty The Bruisers. Being the first recordings completely written and recorded in the band’s current line-up my expectations were high, but after a dozen of spins I can definitely say that these expectations have been met! This international quartet delivers their punk-rock with international allure that I can listen to over and over again! Love it!

Melodic and powerful, melancholic and boisterous, the working class sound of Day Drinker can not be stuck in a single drawer! Mixing elements of bands such as late The Bruisers (I mean, that cover has to come from somewhere right?), The Generators, Face To Face and even Bad Religion into a wild and anthemic whirlwind, Day Drinker has the ability to find a fan base that crosses sub-cultural boundaries, simply because its such a fan and catchy album to listen to!

This catchiness doesn’t come just from the music, but from the vocals as well. Both the dual and individual lead-vocals between guitarists Ronny and Jane are an absolute hit and elevate the album to a higher level with melodious scorchers such as “Day Drinker”, “Child Of Generation X”, “The Family”, “Rock Bottom”, “The Long Run”, “Wohin Du Gehst” and “28 Days”! It truly is the cherry on top!

Now despite being sober for nearly five years, I can definitely get used to day drinking in the form of this release! An absolute must if you like your punk rock dripping in striking hooks, superb dual-vocals and strong sing-along choruses! Out now on Rebellion Records on CD and on either beer colored or black vinyl (250 copies each)!
